Lockdown Day 4

Four days in… and the roller-coaster ride continues

Well this is all very peculiar! One moment I am in panic, worrying how on earth the business is going to survive. Then I find myself having lunch at home enjoying some sunshine and feeling a bit like being on holiday.

The WhatsApp groups are starting to ping with regular updates, jokes and video funnies from friends and family. This is helpful and keeps the mood at the lighter end of the spectrum.

I think like many people I am developing my own coping strategies:

  • Fresh air and activity is essential! For me that means dog-walking and mountain-biking whenever I can
  • Building a bit of routine in this strange and uncertain world… such as regualr Facetime with daughter Julia so I can see her and the lovely grandson Joshi
  • Cooking and eating healthily etc

This John O’Donohue poem has been circulating and seems very appropriate:

“This is the time to be slow,
Lie low to the wall
Until the bitter weather passes.

Try, as best you can, not to let
The wire brush of doubt
Scrape from your heart
All sense of yourself
And your hesitant light.

If you remain generous,
Time will come good;
And you will find your feet
Again on fresh pastures of promise,
Where the air will be kind
And blushed with beginning.”

Prue and I did a run of 3 deliveries today, practising our new protocols and making sure we and our customers stay safe. Lovely to see the positive reaction on the customers’s faces, a good feeling at the best of times, but somehow people do seem even more appreciative in the current situation.
