This was the Devon County Show a few weeks back. Glorious weather, smiling faces, loads of visitors, lots of oohing and aahing over our chairs. All-in-all a classic feel-good show for our feelgood furniture!
Since our last newsletter we have been to Malvern, Devon, Bath and West and the Stansted Garden show. And I’m pleased to report we are enjoying a very good season. Our Semarang chairs also had a bit of a treat in May, an expenses-paid week in Chelsea!
Thanks to our new partner Malvern Garden Buildings the chairs went to the Chelsea Flower Show, where they apparently caused quite a stir. In these photos you can see the Semarangs embellishing a Clifton summerhouse, in a neutral fabric (Geneva Cameo), with the new Semarang pyramid floorlight just visible in the background.
Our next event is a new garden show at Blenheim Palace, which we thoroughly recommend to anyone who fancies a day out in Oxfordshire. It’s an exciting new show, and Blenheim is a beautiful location. Come and see our new outdoor ranges, and check out the water-resistant stripey fabrics we have just found. The dates of the show are Friday to Sunday this coming weekend (21st to 23rd June). Find out more here.
On the Quay in Exeter
If you are going anywhere near Devon or Cornwall this summer, we highly recommend you visit the Custom House in Exeter. Our partner Chandni Chowk has created a wonderful retail space in this incredible building down on the Quay in Exeter. As well as having the best display of our furniture available at any other place apart from the shows and our showroom, this delightful shop has wonderful fabrics and clothes for you to browse. The setting of this 17th century building makes the experience all the more remarkable. Look out for some fabulous stucco ceilings, like this one.
For those of you unable to visit in person you can see more pictures on our website by clicking here.
No, don’t worry, we are not thinking of going into Fair Trade pork. This black beauty is an important source of livelihood to the local tribespeople on the Indonesian island of Papua. Our partner Deddy Heriyanto recently completed an assignment there to the remote village of
Azologaima, for the sustainability network which he works for as a consultant (when he is not organising our furniture). It’s an interesting tale of island hopping, stone and grass ovens, and sweet potatoes… Read the full story here…
Jogya set for sale
One of our customers has asked us to help them sell a 5-piece Jogya set. This comprises a left and right chair, one symmetrical low-sided chair, a side table and footstool, with Taaru Festival cushions (the handwoven pink stripe).
The set is little used and is in excellent condition – bought less than 2 years ago. This combination currently retails for £1995, but the suggested price for this set is £975. A lovely bargain for some lucky household. The furniture is located near Rugby. Collection/delivery to be arranged between the buyer and our customer direct. If you are interested please email us.
We are always on the look out for new distribution points. If you have any ideas for places which you think could be good outlets for our furniture please let us know. We are interested in garden centres, specialist retailers, conservatory suppliers, art galleries etc. Just call and ask for Hugh on 01722 340882, or drop me an email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Best wishes for a good summer!
P.S. This was the view from our office window to-day… looks more like India than Wiltshire, but this magnificent cow was clearly feeling the heat!
